Here's how it works: When people are overweight, fat cells become enlarged due to accumulation of fat, and they increase in number and in the amount of the hormone leptin they secrete. Furthermore, the more leptin, the harder it is to lose weight. African mango seed extract has been shown to reduce secretion of leptin from fat cells. It has also been shown to increase secretion of adiponectin by fat cells. This is important because adiponectin plays a role in fatty acid metabolism, and higher levels of adiponectin are associated with a lower percentage of body fat.
Even more significant than the laboratory research on African mango is the human clinical research on it. Based upon the results of a 10-week, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study with 102 overweight, human volunteers using either 150 mg African mango seed extract twice daily (30-60 minutes before lunch and dinner), or placebo, at the end of 10 weeks you may be able to lose up to 28 lbs, 6 inches off your waist, 6% body fat, while decreasing leptin levels and increase in adiponectin levles while using Irvingia together with a reduced calorie diet and exercise program. You may even be able to promote healthy cholesterol and blood sugar levels already in a normal range.
In addition to African mango, this formulation also includes a green tea extract standardized to 50% polyphenols. In human clinical research, green tea polyphenols have demonstrated an ability to promote the oxidation (i.e., burning) of body fat.
